Bees Wax was a comic strip I drew for the Stony Brook Statesman from 1990 to 1992. The strip was supposed to be about a group of ne'er-do-well high school kids. To this day, I don't really know what the strip was supposed to be about. I was working full time as a cook and going to school full-time as well. Maybe Bees Wax was the result of working 40 to 60 hours a week in a kitchen and going to college full time-- a fried brain.

Looking back, I can see how Calvin & Hobbes, Bloom County, and the Far Side influenced me. I can also see my drawing and writing style develop.

It's also kind of amusing for me to see how my fried brain was processing information like the NEA controversies, Milli Vanilli, and the other late 1980s/early 1990s stuff. Apologies to those too young to know who Milli Vanilli was or how the media ran Dan Quayle jokes into the ground.

So here's Bees Wax, complete with typos and everything else.

And oh, a few editorial cartoons I found as well.
