| Okay, so I was in college drawing cartoons for the campus newspaper. I get a call from the paper's secretary saying that somebody from the Howard Stern Show called and Howard wants the original drawing.
So I went into Stern's old radio station (K-Rock), met him, and gave him the original drawing. I think Stern gave me like $50 or something. Because I was young and didn't know cartooning etiquette, I didn't know that cartoonists usually don't charge when the target of one of their cartoons asks for the original artwork. The cartoon appeared in Stern's book, Private Parts. Stern was very encouraging and gracious when I met him. And tall, too. I'm 6'3" and I remember looking up at him-- something I'm not used to. Between 1990 and 1994, nobody was funnier than Stern. When he called the Iraqi embassy as Fartman during the first gulf war, I nearly lost control of my car on the Northern State Parkway from laughing so hard. I loved whenever Stern & Robin did the news, and Stuttering John was a damn fine journalist. Gary was also a very cool guy and Robin was exactly the way she is on the air--intelligent, funny, and kind. The book launching party at the Harley Davidson Cafe in NYC was a blast. At first, I didn't want to post these pictures because I think it looks kind of cheesey-- like I'm some fawning celebrity hound or something. But I think these photos are funny-- especially the shot of former US Senator Al D'Amato-- God bless you, Al! I decided not to post the photos of Robin, Howard, and myself. I had to post the photos of Al Roker and me, as well as Dee "Twisted Sister" Snyder, both of whom were a pleasure to meet. I'm still bummed that my flash ran out for the Mr. T photo-- an image which I would have used on my home page. |
